Had a great time this weekend at Big Heads. Met some cool people, saw some great shooting (unfortunately against me...0-4 in six innings?! "The only thing I did wrong was rack!!"), and I finally was able to place faces with the usernames on the APA website. Shout out to Greg for a great job running the single boards. It was worth the drive. Count me in for the next one!

Gary Mills a/k/a "Gboogie"

So, I'm reading an article on ESPN about how Kansas barely avoided an upset against Memphis.

A dramatic near-miss by Memphis against No. 1 Kansas capped off our 24-hour college hoops marathon. Phew!

"Near miss"? Isn't it a "near hit"? I mean, if I nearly hit something, it means I missed it ... right? So, by the same logic, if I nearly miss something ... I hit it, correct? Is this the same as "inflammable" and "flammable"? Or when someone says "irregardless"?

While I'm on a rant here ... one more thing. If there is something that you have absolutely zero concern about, then you "couldn't care less about it". It means there is no way you could have less concern. Yet, so many folks say "I could care less". You could? How much less? A lot less? Allow me to show a diagram.

Please, for the sake of those as anal as I am, stop this.

When Bruce Willis was dead at the end of Sixth Sense I ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4

New Features

Greetings Everyone,

Aside from the obvious visual changes to the site there are quite a few new features for you to use and enjoy... and there could be many more on the way, so stay tuned!!!

Here are just a few of the new features:

Personal Photo Galleries - use the link in the left menu and click the folder icon in the upper right to create your own gallery and upload images. Each member has 3 megs of space, or approximately 85 images! You can even select one of these uploaded images into your member profile!

Member Friends list - Integrated into the private message system you can now invite members to be your friends, similar to Facebook. At present it isn't much more than a list that will appear below in your member profile, but there are big plans for this feature, so stay tuned!

Restyled Stats Area - At present there are no new stats. The stats are just re-organized into collapsible tables that are printer friendly (just use your browser's built in print function).

Member WebLogs - You can now blog about your team and your APA experience in your own personal weblog! Your blog has it's own RSS feed that anyone can subscribe to it and post comments as well... you can even link it to your MySpace or Facebook account. We all know lots of interesting things happen during league play! Now you can share those experiences with others; we just ask that you keep it positive. Enjoy!

... and there are many other changes. Please take some time to look around and let us know what you think!

Enjoy everyone!

I was reading in my new APA summer flyer that there are qualifiers for lower level players to possibly get to Vegas. I'm an SL3 so is there such an opportunity for me? Did I miss it for this year?

It looks like they have a class for SL4's and lower to compete at Vegas. Is there anything in our area set-up the same? Or must I play handicapped against SL5's or 6's and up?

Thanks, Rob Shade #18138581 (rob1958)

I think it so that when the league has tournaments that these events are paid for, Correct? So tell me why when the league is having a tournament for citys that i now have to pay 25 per team I am on to pay for ref's? What do I pay all the other money for is it just going in Mike's pocket? Can someone explain this to me? I can say for my self I dont need any ref's and what ever happened to just getting a neutral party. I think there is alot of people who feel the same. Let me hear your thoughts! Thanks

I am never going to Australia

Australia seems cool at first, right? Surfing, beer, people with funny accents ... sounds like a blast. Know what else Australia has? A crapton of things that can kill you.

Several of the most venomous snakes in the world can be found there. Such as the Taipan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taipan
Or the tiger snake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_snake
How about the Western Brown Snake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudonaja

Those are just the damn snakes. One of the most, if not the most, dangerous animal on the planet is the box jellyfish. This thing has thousands of little needles that are used to inject venom. Death occurs in minutes. If you are swimming alone and get stung, there is almost a 0% chance of survival. (http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/box-jellyfish/)
Oh, did I mention the jellyfish related to this guy that can be as small as 1cm and still kill you. Hello, Irukandji.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irukandji_jellyfish

Want an 18 ft aggressive crocodile that takes on livestock? Look no farther than the Saltwater Crocodile. Yeah. You eat cheeseburgers. This thing eats the entire damn cow. (http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/reptiles/saltwater-crocodile/)

Golf ball sized octopi that can kill you in minutes? Yep, they've got 'em. The Blue Ringed Octopus (http://www.barrierreefaustralia.com/the-great-barrier-reef/blueringedoctopus.htm ) is challenging the box jellyfish for most dangerous sea creature, partially because there is no known antidote for the poison. It puts you in to a paralysis where you can hear and see, but cannot respond.

This, and this alone, has solidified my stance that I will never, ever, ever go to Australia.

I wish I lived in Montgomery.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk&feature=related

You will have to show commitments to the cause as time will be of great importance in what we have to do.

If you are interested and prepared to work with me according to these dictates, please correspond back immediately so that we can discuss, make assessments and after your basic understanding of the whole business, commence the process by which we will actualize the project.
Introducing Avatars & Blog Enhancements!!

AVATARS!

Yes, we heard you!!! We've heard those calls to further personalize the forum and allow members to have an avatar appear when they post. Until recently we've resisted the idea for a number of reasons; the primary being members could not upload images and cross linking slows down page loading because the website has to go out and get the image.

Well now everyone has the ability to create their own personal gallery on the website and post their own member blogs. We thought "What better way to encourage the use of these features!!"

You'll notice both the forum and blog now show avatars for the poster and the those who reply. Clicking on the photo will bring up a full size version without taking you away from the page! The arrows below the picture will allow you to scroll through the Avatars of other members. Now you can get a visual of who is posting... put a face to a name... get a glimpse of who they are and maybe find out if it's someone you know or have seen... or someone you WILL know the next time you see them.

The avatar is actually your profile picture, and while you can still remotely link, we suggest you create your personal gallery and upload an image for your profile. Once uploaded you'll see an icon below the image to set it as your profile picture. You can also use the regular photo gallery the same way. Simply search for your member number and use the same icon.

BLOGS!

To further enhance the blog module we've given members the ability to control the blog a little more. The Author can now lock their blog, and not allow comments (they will have to unlock it to edit it too, but they can prevent members from posting to it!). Members can also delete posts from other members (not admins or moderators) if they don't like them. The blog is yours!!! You can also delete a blog once it's been replied to (the only caveat is you have to delete the replies first - if there are any). Yes, we know there are some limitations here, but they were necessary. We hope you understand.

You can also easily link images from your member gallery into you blog! In the post Format: Options look for the () Icon. You can also post YouTube Videos in your blog using the() icon.

When reading a blog, at the very top to the right you'll see a few more icons and a list of websites you can share the blog on. If you find a member's post interesting share it on your favorite website or email it to a friend. You can also search for blogs by specific players and get a list of blogs by date.

Comments, questions and bug reports are always welcome!

Enjoy everyone!

Bob Swauger
APA Bucks-Mont/Lehigh Web Admin
